1976: Jason Fisher is born during the year of the Dragon under the sign of the Scorpio. His place of birth is Boston, Massachusetts.
Jason's parents divorce when he is three but maintain a positive relationship and participate equally in his upbringing.
J says, "Sounds corny, but I love my parents (including my Stepmom) so much there's not a thing I would change about them. There's no question in my mind that their wisdom, love, and support made me what I am and I'm so thankful for that."
1995: Jason Fisher graduates from High School and enrolls in Emory University, located in Atlanta, Georgia.
J immerses himself in the study of art, science, philosophy and religion, while at the same time descending ever deeper into Atlanta's richly burgeoning hip hop scene.
It was here that J was fortunate enough to make the acquaintance of a group of b-boy scholars with whom he would eventually form the now famous hip hop group ILL CHARACTERS.
He says: "Getting down with the ILL CHARACTERS was really what inspired me to become an artist in the first place. There was so much creativity in just the way we lived our lives together that I knew if I could somehow capture it art, it'd be some hot shit."
Halfway through his senior year in college, J begins writing his first film CONVERSATION FOR A DOLLAR.
1999: Jason Fisher graduates with honors from Emory University with a degree in philosophy.
He returns to Boston where he waits tables at some of the city's swankiest joints in order to raise the money to produce the film, which, along with some loans from the bank of Dad, he is able to do over a year's time.
2000: Jason Fisher opens CONVERSATION FOR A DOLLAR to a full house at the historic Brattle Theater in Harvard Sq. Cambridge.
This screening starts a critical and popular buzz that will eventually spread from coast to coast and earn Jason Fisher a reputation as one of today's most unique, intelligent, and talented young filmmakers.
CFA$ continues to play on the art house and festival circuit and continues to be a favorite of both audiences and critics.
J says, "Thank you to each and everyone who showed support for the flick. Love ya'll."
2002: Jason Fisher returns to Atlanta to unite with the ILL CHARACTERS and the group gets to work on their long awaited debut LP, entitled MENTAL ILLNESS.
The group spends the next year and a half crafting an album so creative that it has come to be universally regarded as one of the most confident and impressive independent releases of the last ten years.
ILL CHARACTERS perform all around Atlanta and catch a date here or there in Boston, Chicago, and New York.
MENTAL ILLNESS is distributed nationally and is available at retail locations near you.
2003: Jason Fisher produces two new short films, TOYZ N THE HOOD and JOKE, which are immediately invited to screen at various festivals and art shows.
J completes his first full length feature screenplay, entitled COMPOSITION. He meets with agents and producers in New York and Los Angeles, but as expected, they're on some bullshit and they want him to change the film in ways he doesn't want to, so he decides to produce it independently and will release it in early 2006.
With ILL CHARACTERS on hiatus after the successful release of MENTAL ILLNESS, J writes a few songs with guitar god Alex Ginsberg's band SONIC BLOOM, plays with them regularly around Atlanta.
2004: J moves to New York City so he can play with the big boys.
He begins work on three new short films which will be included on the DVD release of CFA$ set for fall 2004.
J is also involved in directing content for BLOW, a DVD magazine project in association with NTZ ENTERTAINMENT, a leading NYC indie media producer.
He writes an acoustic hip hop set with New York guitarist Craig Maniscalco and appears at various joints around the city.
STAY TUNED: "I just want to make more and better art. I'm working hard to develop my skills as an artist so that the audience will always be glad that they took the time out to watch or listen to something I've done. To be an artist is the greatest honor in the world and I feel a responsibility to live up to that."
